Celebrate Easter at St James'

Palm Sunday 14 April

9.30am  Palm Procession & Eucharist

11.00am Church Alive

We celebrate Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem with Palms and Hosannas.

6.30pm Prayer and Reflection Special Service

Monday of Holy Week 15 April  

7.00pm  Compline

Tuesday of Holy Week 16 April

6.00pm Passover (Seder) meal

We hold a simple Passover meal in the hall which recalls the Passover story and Jesus' last supper with his disciples.

7.30pm Eucharist

We recall Jesus washing his disciple's feet and his betrayal as the lights are dimmed and the sanctuary stripped.

8.30-10.00pm Watch, in the Lady Chapel

A time of quiet with readings from John's Gospel recalling Jesus left abandoned in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Good Friday 19 April

9.15am-11.30am Children's Easter Activity Morning

The event is open to all children aged 4 and above. We will be exploring the Easter Story through craft, storytelling and games. The morning will end with a short service in church to which all are welcome, followed by hot cross buns and coffee in the hall. Please contact Janet on 023 8047 6777 or at to book your place or for further information. There will be a small charge of £1 per child to help cover costs.

1.30pm  'When I survey the wondrous cross'

A reflective service of hymns, readings and prayers as we recall the significance of Jesus' death upon the cross.

Easter Saturday (Eve) 20 April  

9.30am-12.30pm Easter Flower Arranging

All are welcome to come along and lend a hand to help create our beautiful Easter floral arrangements, whatever your experience

8.00pm Easter Vigil

We celebrate Easter in style, pulling out all the stops! Needs to be experienced rather than explained: light, dark, fire, candles, incense, bubbly, bells, fanfares, to celebrate our greatest hope, Jesus's resurrection and our share in his new life and victory over sin and death. Ending with Easter bread and bubbly.

Easter Day 21 April

10.30am Easter Celebration Eucharist (joint service)

A joyful and uplifting celebration of Easter resurrection life. This will be a Festival Service with involvement for all ages followed by Easter Egg hunt and refreshments.

6.30pm Easter Festal Evensong
