Youth Group @ St James’

We are very excited to announce that our new Youth Group is launching at St James’ church on Friday 13th October. This will run fortnightly between 7.30pm and 9pm and will be open to 11-14 year olds, i.e. Year 6 to Year 10.

A typical session will involve chill-out time, games and activities, challenges, music, tuck shop and every couple of months or so ‘outside’ activities such as swimming, sports events, outside visits, treasure hunts, wide games, and the occasional sleepover. We are also hoping to organise a summer camp

In order to help resource the group there will be a half-termly membership fee of £5 per young person; additional costs may be involved for outside visits where an entrance fee is payable and special events, such as camping.

So what are you waiting for?

- Young people - let us know if you’d like to come along and be a member

- Adults – let us know if you’d like to help on a regular basis or occasionally (DBS checks required)

Sunday 1 October

Harvest Festival service

We will hold a celebratory Harvest Festival service to which St James’ School Choir will join us. During this service we will dedicate and use for the first time our new Nave Altar, donated by the Friends of St James’. The Nave Altar has been designed especially for St James’ Church and made by Treske Church Furniture and will be used every week at Church Alive and other special services.

Then at 12 noon we will hold our Harvest HOPE lunch. There will be a selection of cheese, cold meats, quiche and salads available from our cold buffet followed by a homemade hot pudding and custard.

Saturday 30 September

Children’s Harvest Workshop

We are offering children the chance to create Harvest Displays for windowsills and other areas around the church. The knitting club at St James’ School have been working on Harvest knitted mice which will also form part of the displays and there will be little pumpkins filled with flowers for children to work on. We would be very grateful for volunteers to help out at this lively morning session and it doesn‘t matter if you or the children haven’t arranged flowers before – plenty of guidance will be given. As always, donations of any greenery, flowers and suitable harvest produce which will go to local food centres would be more than welcome.

Grave Talk

For those with big questions about death, dying and funerals, having someone to talk to can be invaluable. But how do you start those conversations, and with whom? Talking about death, dying and funerals raises big questions that we need to face at some point, but it can be hard to talk to family and friends.

Grave Talk is a ministry of the Church of England for those of all faiths and doubts. This is an opportunity to meet in a safe and confidential Café environment, to talk about death, think about your funeral, ask questions and air your thoughts. We will hear from one of our local funeral directors, AH Rogers who will also be on hand to answer any questions.
